Today, my parents said that they bought me a car. I had been begging for one for a year and they always said that I would have to pay for it myself. I got really excited and went to the garage to see my new ride. It was a Hot Wheels car with a note saying, "Save your money". FML

Today, after selling their car, my parents decided to inform me that my car (that I paid for myself) is now going to be the "Family Car". They also informed me that since it is, after all, my car, I'll still have to pay for the gas and maintenance. FML

Today, I bought my son a nice car for his 18th birthday. When I gave it to him, he just got mad and told me that if I really wanted to spend that much money on him, I should've used it to help him pay for college. FML

Today, while talking to my parents about my car, my dad said, "Don't put a lot of money into it because we will give you ours when we move." I asked why, and my mom responded, "Well, we helped your sister with her wedding, so this is going to be your wedding gift." I'm getting a car out of pity for not having a wife. FML

Today, I got woken up by my parents telling me I had to go buy a car so they could have transportation. Neither of their cars work, so I was letting them use mine, and then they wrecked it. It needs nearly a thousand bucks in repairs to be drivable again, but since it was my car, I have to replace it now to appease them. FML

Today, was my 16th birthday and I was supposed to be surprised with a new car. I have overheard my parents talking about bringing it home tonight while I was at a friend's house. We snuck back to my house to see them bring my car home. All I saw was my Dad crash my new car into a street lamp. FML

Today, I bought a used car from a private dealer my parents had recommended. On my way home they called to tell me that their car broke down. They bought it last week from the same guy. FML

:-) That's basically what my family did to my brother, only we used a model BMW. You kind of deserve that - car's aren't toys and they are expensive to buy and worse to insure. Get a job and pay for it yourself. Best of luck!

That's awesome. Did they actually set it in the middle of garage where a real car should be parked? That's what I'd have done... and claimed that it shrank in the car wash on the way home.

I don't know what your financial situation is, or your parents', so I won't make any assumptions based on that. However, I will say that I agree with your parents: Learn to save your money. I also agree with the other people on here who said "Your parents do not owe you a car." What they owe you is child-support until you're a legal adult. Then, they have every right to stop buying your food, buying your clothes, paying your insurance... basically, all of your NECESSITIES, and whatever other luxuries you beg for. Again, I do not know what the family financial situation is, but in THIS economy, cars are even more of a luxury item than ever. Be kind to your parents - after all they've done for you - by NOT spending their money more than necessary.

That is AMAZING!! Hahahaha if I ever have kids I am SO going to do that to them just to see the look on their faces. Your parents are great. And your money really could be spent on something more useful. Especially if you have public transportation available to use.

itd be funny if the parents didn't build it up so much. if they just gave her that itd be funny but instead they were like OH WE GOT YOU A CAR. so in that case its pretty cruel and unusual

My mom once told me that she and my dad were giving me our family car and my dad was getting a new one. Then she told me my dad hit a deer that morning and totaled the car. I feel your pain.

i think that's messed up... they're making fun of you while you're trying hard to get a car. I have the same problem and i would too pissed to write on FML if that happened to me.
