Today, we finally got our first electricity bill for our new flat. I was shocked to see that we had used £60 worth of electricity in 6 weeks. Then I noticed that it was only an estimate, and that we could read the meter ourselves to correct the amount. We now have to pay nearly £400. FML

What the ****? Really do you need that many lights for the obvious pot farm in your flat.

Shocked at your electric bill? Good one! I'm guessing the meter reader was an idiot, but they gave you a penalty for illegally reading your own?

400? Ouch, that is 700 Canadian. In 8 weeks we only use 60CAD (33 to you). How can you use so much? I am honestly curious.

We get royally ripped of in England. Electricity bills are also more expensive than other energy bills by far unless you use oil which is crazy expensive. I thought £60 was a bit too low for 6 weeks especially if weather gets bad

My meter was linked to next door's house for a while by accident, so we ended up paying their bills until we queried how we were supposedly using electricity whilst on holiday...

That sounds way off. It could be number of things. (1) You don't know how to read or accidentally misread the meter. (2) The meter is broken and needs to be replaced. (3) The previous resident was a thief. (4) The company has an error in their records. (5) You use way to damn much electricity. If it's number 5, don't complain to the world. You shot your own bloody feet.

did you get a Reading of it the day you moved in or are they still going on the Reading from the last people that lived there?

That's definitely not right, it sounds like you're paying for your neighbors too.

Anyone else see the pun in there?

I live in Texas. Our electric bill is over $200 a month, sometimes $300, in the summer. We live in a 120p square foot metal building apartment.
