Snark

Today, I fell down a flight of stairs at college. I was taken to hospital with a fractured ankle and had to call my parents to drive me home. They constantly made passive-aggressive remarks on the way home, because I'd "totally ruined" their plans to eat out at a fancy restaurant tonight. FML

I have a suspicion that your dad was going to be the only one 'eating out' while they were all alone that night.

Don't feel bad OP when my father got remarried I ruined their honeymoon by getting chicken pox so they had to fly back from Bermuda to take care of me. That's what parents do. Sorry yours are selfish.

I warned you about stairs bro.

Wait-- for real? You're in college and you still have to call your mom and dad to pick you up? Sigh... Independence, try it.

Wow, you're kind of an asshole. HE FRACTURED HIS ******* ANKLE. He probably had to be rushed to the hospital by a friend or by ambulance, and his car is still in the college parking lot which is why he had to phone his folks to pick him up and take him home. What the hell else what he suppose to do???

College for OP = 16-18. It is most likely that he can't even drive yet, as you can only start learning age 17. Even if he could, the chance that he'd own his own car is minimal - there's very few car owners even at university age. The only chance of a sixth former driving a car when they're still living at home is if they were borrowing their parents, and as the parents picked him up, clearly this is not the case. Independence is expected by most in UK to start during university (18-21). Independence is not expected at college, because it's still practically school. Hell, many secondary schools continue on through to 18, meaning that you don't need to switch to a college!

Gently remind them that YOU will be picking out their retirement home.

Oh I got mono on a pre college session over the summer and had to leave because I was in and out of the hospital and they were kicking me out of the dorm so I would infect everyone. My parents thought it was a rebellion that I wasn't ready to leave for university.

Dear Americans, in the UK 'college' is short for 'sixth form college'. It's somewhere you go between high school and university. It's for 16-18 year olds. If I went to hospital at 16 (or 18 for that matter) I'd want my parents to pick me up too!

What the hell kind of parents do you people have? I'd walk across the frozen tundra for my kids if needed & they're all grown! I don't get it.

yeah, really, who wants kids? Always almost breaking their necks and DYING to put up a show and ruining a nice evening out... I mean what could be worse than a ruined night?!
