survival of the fittest at its best

I had to read this like 5 times.

OP's German Shepherd attacked a small dog, killed it, and (presumably) ate it. Instead of being upset over the fact that OP's dog killed another dog, OP is upset and annoyed because he has to pay to replace it.

There's an assumption here that the big dog attacked the little dog. It may have been the other way around. A lot of those smaller dogs have no idea of their own size, and I've seen tiny dogs try to take on dogs 10x bigger than them. Sometimes the big dog just puts a paw on the small dog, sometimes ... well, sometimes things end badly for the little dog. I don't know the facts, but I know that most big dog owners keep their dogs on a leash in public and are careful. Small dog owners tend to let their pets run free, and are often less careful. I'm open to the possibility that the little dog was off its leash and attacked the big dog, and things ended badly. In that case it wouldn't be the OP's fault, and I'd tell the owner that in no uncertain terms it was their responsibility to keep their dog on a leash. It may be harsh telling someone that when their dog is dead, but I would refuse to be held responsible for someone else's failure to follow the rules.

where did you get that OP is upset over having to pay for the dog, all they stated is that they found out how much the dog cost. How did you read between the lines and get it so wrong OMG

Um, are you stupid #50? Obviously OP is upset in some way, or they wouldn't have made an FML about it...

I question why a dog would eat another dog if the other dog is the one that attacked it.

All i am saying is we shouldnt jump to conclusions

It's cool #135, I was scared at first haha, we cool though, we cool

Survival of the fittest! I know a lot don't understand but it's just nature. I'm sure if you was standing there you would have done something about it. Keep your head up, it's not your fault

You can only do so much to stop a 60+ lb dog when its intent on something

My question is why wasn't op right beside his dog anyways? Either the dog should've been on a leash, or if they were at a dog park I would question why they were there as it sounds like op's dog is aggressive towards other animals. I highly doubt that the German Shepard wasn't already aggressive if he not only bit the dog, but killed it and then (presumably) started eating it. If you know you have an aggressive dog, you never let them off leash or put them in a situation where they can hurt someone or something else. Even if the little dog started attacking op's dog first, most bigger dogs would bite back to put him in his place (and usually not even hard enough to seriously injure), but wouldn't kill it or eat it.

Brandi, I was thinking the same thing. Every time I keep my grandmother's little lap dog (I don't know what breed he is, just that he's small and hyper), he always has to antagonize my pit. Usually my dog just ignores him, but sometimes little dog gets on his nerves and he'll snap at him. He's never gone as far as actually hurting the smaller dog. OP's dog is definitely showing higher than normal aggression, and OP needs to keep a better eye on him.

German Shepherds are bred to be. They're police dogs for that very reason. My mum used to have one that ripped her other dog apart one day with no warning.

They are not bred to be vicious. They are to guard and protect. Your comment is one that makes people think GSD's should be on the breed discrimination list. Sorry for the owner of the small dog. Don't like small dogs myself because of how most people don't think they can do more damage. So many thing they are cute when attacking. Not cool.

I don't think that tiny dog was smiling at all.. Poor dog. I can't imagine how frightened it must've been :(

Who cares about the cost that puppy just lost his life :(

So far on this site I have seen cases of a small dog getting carried away by a hawk, an owl, and now eaten by a larger dog. I'm starting to think even nature herself hates rat dogs.

Nature didn't create small dogs. Generations of selective breeding, genetic manipulation and in-breeding did.
