Fluid dynamics is a strange thing. Somehow the air going from the throat to the nose can suck air in from the mouth even when other air is exiting the mouth. I don't pretend to understand how that happens.

OMG!!! That once happened to me while eating Spaghetti Bolognese. It flew up into my nose (meet, onions, cheese and all) and it all got stuck up there... Stayed in my nose for about three days...

Happened to me when I was a kid, my best friend made me laugh while I was eating a yogourth, and I managed to spit it trough my nose...
