Today, I was having an in depth discussion with my girlfriend's father about how corrupt journalists are and how our town's paper is the worst paper on the planet. After insulting basically everything about the newspaper, I asked him what he did for a living. He's the editor of the newspaper. FML

Why bring up or express such charged opinions during your first time meeting your gf's dad? There is no need to get into that kind of discussion the first time you meet.

YDI! Why would you start talking like a smartass before you actually get to the basic questions, like, "What do you for living, sir?". Because anyone in her family could've been working in that News Paper for all you know- you have to THINK before you open your jab

This sorta reminds me of a joke.... A boy and his girlfriend were getting serious and the girlfriend said that they could take their relationship to the "next level" after he met her parents. He agreed to have dinner with her parents and said that he needed to go buy some stuff. He heads down to the pharmacy and asks the pharmacist where the condoms are. "Oh, I have some right here. Do you want the 3 pack, 6 pack, or 24 pack?" The pharmacist replies. The boy smirked. "I'll have the 24 pack. Me and my girlfriend are gonna be busy." After the condoms are paid for, the pharmacist hands them over to the boy without saying another word. That night at dinner, everyone is sitting at the table to pray. The boy is asked by his girlfriend's father to say grace. The boy prayed and prayed. Almost ten minutes went by. Finally, the girlfriend leaned over to the boy and said, "You never told me that you were so religious." The boy replied, "You never told me that your dad was a pharmacist."

No one tries to be pseudo-intellectual. People try to appear intellectual and eventually get discovered as frauds and then are labeled pseudo-intellectual. I could add some dickish remark here, but I won't because I think you're cute.

Not ALL journalists are corrupt. You need to learn to think about what you're saying before you say it, and do a bit asking before you actually meet the girlfriend's parents. Eejit.
