To be fair, if the OP is talking about the Adelaide Advertiser, everything he said is pretty spot on. It's an awful excuse for journalism.
Oh god, I hate the 'tiser so much. However, I'm not sure anyone who lives in Adelaide would refer to it as a town.
Any chance he'll appreciate your constructive criticism?
Three options: - You weren't having an in-depth discussion about how bad the paper was, but you were just ranting about how bad it was and he just sat there listening. In this case, YDI. - You were having an in-depth discussion about how bad the paper was and he was constantly disagreeing with you but you just wouldn't stop. In this case, YDI. - You were having an in-depth discussion about how bad the paper was and he was agreeing with you (could be that he just started as the editor an wants to improve a lot of things, for example). In this case, not an FML.
I'm assuming this is an FML just because you want your gf's dad to like you, but otherwise I'd say it's a win. Not only did you (hopefully) have an intelligent convo with him, but it was about something important to someone that can hopefully do something about it. So not really a bad thing at all. If you really like this girl and are with her long enough eventually he'll come around
Haha. Open mouth and insert foot, OP. If you're right though, then he probably deserved it. Of course, I wouldn't tell him that...
how could you not know he's the editor when you seem to know so much about the paper?

Think about it this way... your giving him an indepth look at how a reader views it. =) Id take it as constructive critisizm..
Why bring up or express such charged opinions during your first time meeting your gf's dad? There is no need to get into that kind of discussion the first time you meet.
