He didn't break up with her, he cheated on her, which is much worse. I'm sorry OP, cheating is always the cheater's fault, and your granny should have been a little more sensitive to your feelings.

Even if she gained weight and stayed there, that's no excuse for cheating. It could warrant a talk or, if they couldn't agree, a breakup, but it doesn't justify cheating.
