Thanks, son

Today, I was supposed to catch a 4:40 flight to New York. My 5 year-old son handed me my carry on bag as I left the house. Turns out he had put his older brother's BB gun into my bag to "keep me safe." I missed my flight after I was detained and strip-searched. FML

It sucks when kids do stuff like that, but they really don't know any better. Best is to tell them that they've done wrong, and hope that they won't do it again.

Hope you got compensation or put on another flight for free :/

Also, guys who are so opposed to guns: Get over yourselves! No a 5 year old shouldn't have access to guns, but if handled properly guns are a good thing to have around. I guarantee that you'll want to have one around if someone brakes into your house in the middle of the night with one. They're not bad for hunting either. Thank God for the Second Amendment!

#101 - God had nothing to do with the second amendment.

What a sweetheart, being so worried about his dad. But yeah, I do agree with the others... the gun shouldn't be within his reach. At least the kid knows the gun is for protection, not just to go round and shoot people with for the hell of it.

good deeds never go unpunished.

Hope you called home to tell him that you love him and that daddy will be safe even without the little toy. By the way, that's the sweetest and cutest thing I've heard anybody do in a very long time.

Wow seriously people. A BB gun is not as dangerous as you think. The worst thing you can do is shoot your eye out. It can't even kill a friggin small bird

#106, it's impossible to prevent criminals from gaining access to guns, no matter how strict your gun control laws are. Consider how widespread illegal drugs are, the black market will always be there.

Awe, I'm sorry that happened, but it's really sweet that your son wanted to keep you safe.

I don't know what kind of BB gun it was, but as an Airsoft player I am against letting young children have access to BB guns (even the low-power ones (200fps)). I don't mind the older brother having such a gun if he's at least 14, at that age he may be responsible enough to own one, but the 5 year-old kid should never had accessed to it (and I guess his older brother is irresponsible for not storing it better). Any accident involving a BB gun could have Airsoft banned, even if it happens at home, so I get easily pissed at irresponsible people/teenagers/parents who fool around with those guns. They may not play Airsoft themselves, but their stupidity could get my favorite sport banned anyway. Hope this teaches you something, obviously you have a lot to learn about BB guns and parenting.
