Heh, a lack of friends and personality doesn't lead to an empty existence. It leads to an un-social existence.

it depends on what you put stock into. for you, a social life is important. for a unsocial nerd, he might put stock in his work not friends.

That may be what you prioritize as a meaningful life - but there are very few nerds who actually lead an "empty existence" (of course, there are the assholes in every social group, but I digress). They're just filled with such awe for what they're studying that they are bursting at the seams, it's so cute : ) I love nerding out with people and listening to others nerd out (even if I don't understand what they're saying)! You may think they're no good at socializing, but that's just because you can't communicate with them. Being a nerd myself - I feel that people who don't invest any real time into learning and only socialize are living the empty lives. They tend to have superficial conversations and have transient friendships. But again.. it's all perspective.
