You should have gave him the employee discount. Two for .78 cents.

**** no. I hope not. I believe in respecting the men and women in military, but this is bullshit.

If after you explained to him how much the military discount would save him (??? <10cents) and he still wanted it, give it to him as long has he has the proof of service.

PAHAHHAHAHA ^-^ Wow it'll take a real dumbass to not realise that they're surrounded by car parts *_*

Heck no! Usually I just blindfold myself and feel my way into a random store. Last time I did that, I ended up in an adult toy store. Totally worth it.

Some autoparts store will sell small snack items, like slimjims...

And the biggest dumb ass award on this FML goes to .............. Number 14!

That's definitely reinforced by reading her profile, 62.

Definitely gotta agree with #80, 100%. I feel as though I've lost many brain cells & time I can never get back from reading that horrid profile.

For the record, 14's profile actually says "I go to a English school so I obviously have good grammar". Not.

We better stop making fun of her.. She could set one of those fierce ligers that we've heard so much about on us... Or just that guy with some 'major swag.' That would be fun.

It's not your money it's the company's. Besides it's not like you're getting promoted for saving them money.

What a cheap ass. Just because you're in the military doesn't automatically mean you get discounts or a free pass. I hope you made him pay full price like the rest of us. Especially slim Jims in an auto parts store. He's stupid.

Um, military typically gets a discount at ANY store. Respect your servicemen, dude.

olpally 32

I respect them, but he needs to stop being a cheap ass. You can't afford slim jims? Are you ******* kidding me?

Agreed. Like.... I don't even know. I'm Canadian and I just have to agree. What BS

Hey not everyone has a ton of money. Every penny counts and it really does add up.

Military with dependents are generally living near or under the poverty line. It's not like they make real money.

this is fact. I am active duty 10 years service, a wife and 2 kids. what the army pays me is paltry compared to what I can make in the civilian sector. I am a helicopter quality control inspector, also known as an A&p-IA in the real world.

But do you have an A&P license, 63? Because if you don't, it would be impossible to get your same job as a civilian. And even if you could get a job in aviation as a civilian without that A&P license you'd be doing something like servicing tires or washing aircraft. If you don't have your A&P license then, given that you have ten years service and dependents, and I'm guessing you're at LEAST an E-5 pay grade, if not an E-6, to be a Quality Control inspector, I'd bet 1 month of my base pay that you are actually way over payed for what you're qualified to do as a civilian. I know because I'm an E-4 Aviation Electrician in the Navy with a term of enlistment that will expire soon. I did my research and I found that, given my qualifications as a civilian, I'd likely lose $20,000/ year if I were to leave the Navy and get a civilian job in aviation. Yes, my base pay is abysmal, but after my Basic Allowance for Housing and Basic Allowance for Sustenance, I make over $40,000/ year, at the age of 25 with 3 years service and no college education or civilian certifications. If you DO have your A&P license, however, then yes, you probably are underpaid. I just don't understand why everyone seems to think that service members are all poor. We're not. Yes, many of us work very hard and are underpaid for the hours we work and risks we take, but many of us are actually way overpaid in terms of qualifications. Now with regard specifically to this FML, I make a habit of asking for a military discount at restaurants, movie theaters, theme parks, and the like, but I hardly ever ask for a military discount at a store because, in my experience, most stores don't offer military discounts. The only store I've ever found that offers a military discount is Foot Locker. I also think it's ridiculous and a huge waste of time to ask for a discount on a purchase that's less than $1, no matter who you are or what you do for a living.

opally.....eat a d#%k. mainly for ur selfie pic

93- read his profile... If that doesn't get the hate flowing through you, I don't know what will..

actually thats what it means exactly...they protect our freedom

We make less than minimum wage...paid at a part time job working more than full time with overtime...in a job we can't quit. People so quickly make assumptions, usually that we get paid a lot of money. Yes, the government gives a lot of money to the military, but none of us enlistees see it. Some months every penny counts.

How about **** you. I don't see you protecting our country, asshole.

Do you mean the meat sticks or the flat pieces of metal that help you break into cars? This could be a "give a man a fish/teach a man to fish" conundrum. If it's the metal Slim Jims, thank him for his service, and let the man get to work playing GTA IRL.

Goblin182 26

Give a man a Slim Jim and he will eat for a day. Teach the man how to use a slimjim and he will still cars foever? (still, steel, steal? I admit I have no clue_

MerrikBarbarian 9

If he is asking for a discount on such a small thing he probably needs it. Many soldiers are on disability and not just for physical injury. Having had to rely on disability for income after an accident for a bit I can tell you the amount of money you get? Good luck keeping a roof over your head, led alone eating. He was probably embarrassed to ask for that discount, but needs to save every penny he can. F his life.

I can't give discounts on something so cheap. company policy

If he's on disability then he doesn't need slim jims, they weren't important, hell even the poorest person could dig some change out to pay for them. He was just being cheap and taking advantage of a discount that was put in place to help veterans.

MerrikBarbarian 9

Why not? Food is food. Maybe he doesn't make the best food choices, but it's not unreasonable to buy food. Maybe he is down to his last dollar and slim Jim's are better than nothing. I can't see anyone worrying about a few cents discount unless they really needed it. No one faults college students for living off ramen and Mac and cheese... Slim Jim's at least hav protein

Sinistra_Blue 12

#79. Have you ever eaten a Slim Jim? Its not bad, but definitely not as filling as a 90 cent pack of noodles from a grocery store. If the man was really that poor that he needed a discount to buy a 38 cent slim jim, then he would be better off buying noodles from a dollar store. More bang for the buck.

#79 he could have gotten 4 packs of ramen from Walmart or something from a dollar menu at a fast food joint, he was being a cheapskate and taking advantage of our country

And maybe this person lives in a food desert, where it is impractical to get to a grocery store with more variety.

Maybe you need a leave a penny, take a penny.

LOL are you serious? Do you KNOW what's in a slim Jim? I bet there's a .001% chance there is protein in those babies

My father was on military disability for ten years before he passed and had no problem providing for him and my mother. He just lived within his means and didn't do extravagant things. The most money he spent was to take my brothers, mom and me on a last family vacation when he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. It was worth it though since he passed two weeks later. Anyway, people on disability aren't necessarily practically homeless.

A military discount isn't only for disabled veterans. It's for anyone who has served their country as well as their dependents.

jillian2296 11

What makes you think he was on disability? He wanted a military discount obviously he was in the military before or he wouldnt just ask for one?

MikaykayUnicorn 36

Military discounts aren't only usable by veterans. You get this card (you have to be 10 years of age or older & live with a veteran) that's kind of like an ID (military ID) and you can get military discounts at stores that offer them. My dad is a veteran and if my mom has her military ID she can ask for a military discount at stores that offer them.

ShittyBikes 6

Hey, what's the harm in asking?

myeviltwin 20

Slim Jims for 39 cents? Where do you live 1989?

MikaykayUnicorn 36

At a little-league baseball field my brother plays on they're 25 cents each.
