Today, a dog bit me on the bus. Instead of apologising, its owner said it was my fault because my hands "must smell of meat". I'm a vegetarian. FML

alaillama tells us more.

OP here: just to say that a) it was a small lap dog, but very ferocious. The bus was very crowded so I was pressed up against the dog, holding my phone with one hand and the other by my side (it bit that one); b) I had washed my hands just 20 minutes before getting on the bus (in the LADIES toilets), so they must have smelled on soap or of nothing at all. I checked afterwards and I couldn't smell anything unusual; c) thankfully my stop was pretty close so it wasn't long before I could treat it Thanks for all your concerns in the comments! It's really nice to hear them- it's healing quickly and hopefully there won't be a scar :) xxx

Sucks when people can't take responsibility of their own animals in situations like this, to them the pet is a saint and anything that happens is automatically the other persons fault, sorry OP!

maybe your 'bus' smelled of meat since he but you on the bus. btw did you mean butt?

What the Hell are you talking about? OP was riding on ths bus and a dog bit him. The FML was pretty straight forward.

It's not your fault that you have big meaty claws.

No matter how hard you try you just can't win with those things...unless you deal out a lawsuit with that...

Either way she shouldn't have said that because a pet owner shouldn't blame a person (unless they purposely hurt the animal) for being bitten by thier dog. If your hands did smell like meat, and if the dog was well trained, it shouldn't have bitten you. Dogs would usually just sniff someone's hand if they smell like food, anyway... Point is, the dog's owner had no valid reason to blame you. She was probably embarrassed to take responsibility for her pet. Edit: I just realized that the pet owner's gender was never mentioned... I don't know why I kept saying "she" I just imagined a crazy middle aged woman, I'm sorry people.

While he's technically correct about you "smelling of meat" (We are technically made of meat, the same way a cow is), it's still not your fault. It's not even the dog's fault, it's his for not training or looking after it properly. It'd be interesting to know what breed it was as there are certain breeds that are banned due to this type of behaviour.

the breed doesnt matter. its how its raised, it just so happened that aggressive owners liked pit bulls and such.

Well you could get him done under the Dangerous dogs act 1991 as you are from England

The dog can sense your lack of meat diet and therefore thinks you are easy prey. In the future bite the dog back. You gotta be pack leader.
