Today, a man I once worked with passed away. He was a lovely, caring, and inspirational person whom I looked up to. My husband's form of consolation? "Old people die. Get over it." FML

Yes, unfortunately the old die, I hope this great man was able to pass on his experience and intelligence before he passed. Just today I had a discussion about how society seems to be evolving slower socially, because the young refuse to learn from the old.

Yeah doesnt mean he has to be a jerk about it.

Dumbass husband, young people die too. Death doesn't discriminate.

Well, OP's boyfriend is kind of right. We are all decomposing organic matter that will die eventually at some point.

That was abit rude, I'm sure he wouldn't say that to someone he knows. :/

And you should stop being disrespectful by not capitalising all of the first letters. It looks good on headings, not on text.

Very sorry for your loss. I hope there is someone in your life who is more sensitive than your husband that you can turn to for support during this difficult time.

Difficult time? It's a former coworker not a close family member or friend. Get a grip.

And yet he still obviously meant something to the OP. Maybe read the FML again instead of spouting like an ass, huh?

If you're not sensitive and empathetic enough to comprehend how someone could be greatly affected by the death of someone they respected who wasn't a close friend or family member, I'm afraid I just can't explain it to you. Regardless, you cannot assume that this person wasn't close to OP based on her identifying him as a former coworker in the FML. Perhaps she feels uncomfortable using the word "friend" due to their age difference, or because she viewed him more as a mentor or father figure than a peer.

It was a rather dickish way to say it, sure, but it's true. Death is just a fact of life.

sensitivity, your husband fails at it.

Sounds like your husband is jealous :)
