Today, a man stopped me on the street. He said the stretch marks on my thighs looked like cuts, and asked me if I self-harmed. Before I was able to politely respond "No", he said, "I mean, I can see why you would." FML

Who even asks that question to a stranger in the first place? And what they added on made them even more of a dick

After his insult, you should have said, "However I do perform grievous bodily harm", and let loose on him.

Anddddd that's the reason I don't like people.

That sucks, but you shouldn't worry about his opinion. Obviously, he doesn't respect you, so why should you respect what he says to you? I have stretch marks on my hips. Don't worry about it. I worry sometimes that people might think I self-harmed there, but then I realize I don't care. I actually did self-harm, but that's not the point of this. (:

From someone who has cut before...there is a big difference in the appearances. Stretch marks can sometimes sink in just a hair whereas cutting scars are raised. I have both and they are not easily mistaken for each other. Its okay OP, either way, obviously the FML community is here for you. :-D

Some of those scars don't nessesarily raise though, perhaps with the amount of time you've had them?

Try wearing long jeans or skirts instead?

She can wear whatever she wants. She doesn't have to hide her stretch marks, but strangers have to STFU instead.

I'm that sort of person who wears long jeans (to cover my pale stretch marked thighs) and long sleeves (to cover self harm marks) in hot weather. People actually think it's weird when you do this and ask why you're covering up in such good weather. I would hope that the OP is better than me in that they have the confidence to wear what they like and not let this one rude person ruin that for them.

Your reply should have been, "Do you get slapped on a regular basis........I mean, I could see why!"

I'm a little late to jump on the commenting bandwagon here, but I have to put in my two cents. My thighs bear both stretch marks and self-harm scars, and they look NOTHING alike.
