I think the comments should be closed before we get a 'pro-life/pro choice' debate... Just saying
You might want to work on your reading comprehension. The guy stuck around for 30 minutes. It took hours-plural for 17 people to buy socks.
I actually noticed that after the time to edit had passed. Even so, it seems odd that at least 17 customers bought socks in the same day. I'd imagine it would be a much higher number, because you'd think the average person would just throw away the trash, instead of bothering to return the socks. I suppose it could be a high traffic store like Walmart, or something, but that still seems like a large number of customers buying socks, even if it happened to be a shoe store.

Dobby would even return those socks. Had a customer hide religious pamphlets everywhere in the bathrooms and around the restaurant. The real joy was getting the fake bills in the receipt-book saying "the only tip you need is Jesus!" Livid.
Because when I'm buying socks, it's usually so I can wear them to my abortion appointments
Okay but why socks for an anti-abortion message? Wouldn't the wire coat hangers be the more ideal place for that message? Socks are for anti-masturbation. I'm probably going to hell for this one.
Since you're in Manitoba you can report it to the police. That kind of thing is a crime in Canada and if he's caught he will be warned for sure and can be charged especially since his action resulted in you being threatened.
I'm guessing some of the pamphlets fell out on the floor as the day went on, not that it was BOVO sock day. Maybe see if the cameras (if there are any) can be pulled in order to get an image of the guy to put on a poster stating that he was at fault, and that the company would not permit employees to advertise personal beliefs using store resources and grounds.
