That's ok, OP. My doc told me I needed to see a psychiatrist, because I was "beyond her realm of help."

Psychiatry denotes a mental illness such as schizophrenia, which IS outside of a GP's scope. A psychologist on the other hand, deals with emotional issues, which is ALSO outside the scope of a GP. Sounds like you have a good doctor to me.

Maybe he thought you'll put the others in further depression and crush all their hopes of recovery thus ruining his business. Depression is real and you need professional help if you are in this deep. If this doesn't work out, hopefully you will find a better therapist.
