Today, a therapist told me that I was too depressed to attend his depression group meetings. FML

Ouch :/ I hope you get better soon! Lots of love!

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence. My first one-on-one therapist gave up on me after a year because I was, apparently, "too depressed." I was then referred to a new therapist who, in my opinion, is much more helpful. Don't give up, OP; things get better, I promise.

Sometimes depending on the individual, group therapy sessions are not recommended. You might benefit more from one on one sessions for the time being. The reasons in a lot of cases, is that in group sessions it's more of a sharing situation where as in a one on one session it can be much more intense, therefore for the severely depressed it can enable the person to really get the root of their particular issue. If you do not feel comfortable OP with your counselor, however, I urge you to find a counselor you feel you identify with and feel confident with. Only when you can trust and feel comfortable with your counselor can you really get to the root of the issue and find a resolve. Good Luck!

^ Finally! Someone else who knows what they're talking about.
