Today, after 3 days of interrupted sleep, I confronted my new neighbor about the noise his wife keeps making during their "private time". He then let me know the noise is actually from his daughter, who's mentally disabled and isn't taking the move well. FML

No way you could've known OP. Don't be too hard on yourself

OP's assumption was wrong but we don't choose our neighbors. Not everyone is asleep at night. And it's not always sex that's going on. There's always going to be those crazy nights that the neighbors dog wouldn't stop barking, or the neighbors kids were playing loud music, or someone is doing burnouts in the street which is dangerous. Hopefully OP can take some suggestions from people here and find a way to channel out the neighbors noise until the young girl adjusts to her new home.

Not making assumptions helps prevent additional awkwardness. Hope you get your sleep back soon!

Next time just ask about some sounds you heard and ask in a neutral way. Sucks though, but you couldn't have known..

Don't feel bad. The Jack ass could have come over and let you know his situation and that there might be a bit of noise now.

Yes you weren't to know. I'd have done the same thing. I think it might have been avoids of the neighbour told you and other neighbours if this happens.

As the mother of a severely disabled son that lives in an apartment. I make it a point to introduce myself to a new neighbors & explain (Not apologize) our situation. I also make them homemade candies & cookies periodically & offer to sign for deliveries if they are in class ( I'm home all day any way). OP should not feel bad, its an awkward situation.

Just take 800 mg of Seroquel. You won't hear a thing. lol
