Today, after 8 months of being belittled and treated like trash at my job as a prep cook in a high-end kitchen, I stood up for myself to the line cooks. Not only did everyone laugh at me, I got fired for causing a scene during service and insubordination. FML

#87 - Exactly! There's a hierarchy in kitchen situations and Prep Cook is pretty low down on the list. You have to learn to take all the crap because that's just how things work. In the end it'll make you a better employee. Bitching and disrupting the work environment was the completely wrong move and wont gain you any respect whatsoever.

NO ONE deserves to be insulted. Just because he is your boss does not give him the right to be a bully and just because you went through it does not make it right. It doesn't make you a better employee. I just makes you feel like shit and cause you to feel like you should do the same if you ever get into the boss' position. As for #90, an employee has the right to defend themselves from their boss if they are being abused in any way. This is not ok and I hope OP sues the pants off them. This shit needs to stop. I've seen this sort of thing happen at other places and they didn't get away with it, why should any of you? Knock them on their ass with a good fist to the face. That'll teach em' (don't do that, just sue them)

Well, I don't know if you did or didn't get treated fairly, but causing a scene like that IS insubordination and correct grounds to be fired on.

line cooks can be assholes cuz it gets stressful in a restaurant but u still deserve the respect cuz if it wasn't for u they would be prepping which means they stay after closing hours longer...sucks for them
