Today, after 8 months of being belittled and treated like trash at my job as a prep cook in a high-end kitchen, I stood up for myself to the line cooks. Not only did everyone laugh at me, I got fired for causing a scene during service and insubordination. FML

At least you tried to stand up for yourself. You don't deserve to be treated like that.

Maybe if you did it with a knife in your hand they wouldnt have laughed so much...

Are you sure it wasn't just destructive criticism of your work? Maybe, you're not a very good prep cook?

It's better off for you seeing no one had respect for you.

One man's hazing is another man's ******** on. It could have been as bad as the OP makes it out to be or it could be our OP has very thin skin. When you are at the bottom of the food chain you get dumped on, shit rolls down hill. Climb up the food chain and the shit rolls down hill past you. Welcome to the real world.

#37, well put, but all this talk of shit rolling around where my food is being made has made me lose my appetite!

You deserved it and the reason why is because you shoulda stood up for yourself when it all first started happening and it wouldn't have been so bad. Then perhaps you would still have your job.

you deserved it becauase you shouldnt cause a scene at work durinf the time customers are around. still im sorry that had to suck, hopefully youll find a new job

Well, technically since op is a cook and more than likely working in a high end restaurant, I'm pretty sure they've probably got the kitchen well isolated so that customers cannot see directly into it nor hear the cooks comments from where they are sitting in the restaurant.

I imagine you were just being hazed a bit and blew up at the wrong time. I worked in the restaurant industry for years as a cook. Let me tell you we always busted the new guys' balls (dishwashers, busboys, prep cooks etc) It was part of the fun and a good way to see if someone can deal with pressure. If they handled it well and could even bust balls back (without interrupting service) then they made it into the inner circle. If not oh well.

Also worked in food industry for years and a few flat tires when your runnung the trash out works wonders. But you never get in the cooks face durring the service. wait till after of call the owner. 9 times out of 10 trouble between the one making the food an anyone else will not turn out good

OP you gotta learn to pick your battles better. Shoulda just kept chopping those vegetables... I heard Denny's is hiring

Why can't people just do the job they are paid for? You were a PREP cook. Your job is to PREP food. If you had been doing this, you would not have been belittled.
