Today, after finally giving up on the search for my lost dog, I realized that my neighbors had found her and are convinced that she was a stray. They won't give her up and are now mad at me for trying to take my own dog back. FML

Ouch, that sucks I would definitely get others involved to get your dog back But how did your neighbors not even know that it was your dog?

That's why you have those chips implanted. To fight back against scumbags like these. What a pair of grade-A assholes.

Um, the whole idea of a stray is that it's a dog that has strayed from their previous home, i.e. it really belongs to someone else. For you neighbours not to turn it in to the local pound where they can post it as a lost animal, let alone give it back to someone who's come to claim it, tells me that these people are absolute idiots and don't deserve a pet.

#15, I think the OP's neighbors know its his/her dog but are acting like they don't so they can keep it

Bitches. Don't you have papers of shots or something you could use to prove it's yours?

This is why it's good to have a collar/dog tag! :)

You can easily take your dog back with some help of the police. If that doesn't work you can make a legal case of it.

I agree with number 5. they are Grade A assholes and you should fight for your dog as much as possible. did it have a chip implanted at all? do you have any papers to prove it?

FYL, go get your dog back, there has to be some way you can legally prove it's your dog. Vet papers, photographs, collars. These people are thieves, and one of the most cruel kinds.

awww i'm so sorry, i would call the police or something, there has to be some kind of proof the dog is yours :(

If the dog doesn't have a tag, it IS a stray!!! That said, when they let the dog outside, doesn't it come towards your fence and sniff around or whatever, or indicate in some way that it wants to go home? Or when you see her, doesn't he come to you? Wouldn't the neighbor notice?
