I've been there OP. still am. one of my best friends who is also an ex, I still love him, but we give each other advice and stuff for dates and everything. it'll get better OP

Do don't that to yourself OP. Being there as his shoulder to cry on or lean on is NOT better than nothing. In fact, it's worse than nothing. Walk away or let him know how you feel.

This is why people need to be honest about how they feel. You are either going to get hurt because you tell them and they do not reciprocate or hurt because you did NOT tell them and they tell you sordid details of their dates. OR they like you back.
