Today, after I cleaned out the fridge of things that expired months ago, my roommate got angry and insisted upon pulling all the moldy dairy products out of the garbage and putting them back because "they weren't mine and I shouldn't throw out other people's food." FML

either make sure he eats them or blend them all up into a smoothie and don't tell him what it is until he's done drinking it:)

maybe your roommate has had a bad experience with this? Nevertheless, sounds a bit crazy...

people move away from home and get roommates in order to have some freedom, this probably touched a nerve infringing upon that freedom. What the OP should've done is mentioned it first to the roommate, then said "if you're not gonna throw it away I will". That way you're not impeding on his freedom to make his own decisions, yet you're getting the same desired result. This had nothing to do with the food...

That's so disgusting. Buy your own mini-fridge, or eat out. Btw, make sure that he eats it. It's gross, but hell, he brought it back in anyway.

Not everyone has the money to eat out all of the time and mini fridges are super expensive. They hike up the energy bill almost as much as a normal fridge.

All the people here who are defending the OP's roommate probably hoard disgusting old food themselves. That is a sign that you have a PROBLEM. It is not normal to want to keep festering green cheese or smelly old milk. Its also disgusting when it taints the smell or taste of someone else's food.

Sounds like some kind of ****** up compulsive hoarder. Tell your roommate to seek professional help.

you deserve it for actually listening to that idiot. you should have just told them to **** off and retrieve their own moldy shit if they wanted it that bad.

"my roommate got angry and insisted upon pulling everything out of the trash"... Roommate didn't insist that OP pull everything out of trash...roommate did it herself...

Oh, FYL. Poor honey. I once had a filthy hippie housemate who'd buy organic veg, then leave them in the crisper until they putrefied and went liquid. After I dumped the nauseating fluid down the bathtub drain and scrubbed the fridge until it didn't stink any more, she went batshit on me for throwing out her expensive organic shit. Save your money and buy your own house, it's the only way.

Nasty food attracts bugs, bugs attract more carnivorous bugs (such as centipedes) and you know most would consider that just a bit disgusting. I lived in a new, nice, in the city building and still managed to get ants and fruitflies because my roomate wouldnt throw her stuff out. I hate science projects in my fridge. The mini little bacteria cities. It's gross.
