Did you guys know that even the Japanese get more paid vacation time than Americans? Americans work stupidly hard for less money than other countries' citizens.
Practically EVERYONE gets more vacation time than Americans. In Australia, it's four weeks a year (paid at 117.5% of your normal wage), plus ~10 public holidays, plus 10 days sick leave, plus a contribution to long service leave. Here in Germany, most people I know get six weeks a year. Interesting observation: When the rest of the world bitches about Americans being insular or whatever, they have to remember that realistically, with that little vacation time, when would the average American get a chance to travel overseas? For most people, a trip outside the US would be a once in a lifetime experience, or something that has to wait until retirement. There are very valid reasons for the way people are the way they are.
Interesting point. I hadn't considered any of that before.
The United States is the only advanced economy that doesn't have statutory vacation entitlements for workers. Even where an employer does grant people leave, it's significantly lower than what they'd get in other countries. There's a (vaguely) interesting report on it called 'No Vacation Nation'. Just Google it if you're interested in seeing a country-by-country comparison.
I was reading an American job ad the other day, and the vacation/heath insurance/pension fund contributions were completely laughable compared to any job I'd ever had. They were so lame as to be practically insulting, but I was told they were actually above average for the US. There is some serious exploitation going on, and not just of minimum wage workers.
suck it up. my dad gets up everyday at 1 to make his 130 shift
^ That's what I was thinking. Ashton, you're bitching about only sleeping 2-3 hours a night (which I'm not saying you don't, & makes sense considering you've been acting like something crawled up your ass & died probably due to sleep deprivation), but you spend your free time arguing on FML about how "hard" your life is instead of just going to sleep? Valid argument there....
Be glad you have a job. And tbh I can't think of many qualified jobs with such working hours (and the ones I can think of have clear regulations about the hours that wouldn't allow for your schedule). Could have gotten yourself some proper education... YDI. And yes, please, if you can't take the heat, just vacate your job for someone who can.
70 hours? If you do 12 hour shifts, thats only 6 days a week. It could be worse, you could work 20 hours a day, everyday..
wow. thats a douche move. id suggest talkin to him again. but.... youdd probably get firedd. :/
