Today, after recently having had surgery, I Iearnt that some extra tissue was needed to cover up the hole in the roof of my mouth. Where did they get this tissue? From a dead person. I now have the flesh of a dead person in my mouth, which by the way is now infected. FML

So would you rather still have the hole in your mouth? Get over it. It's not like they dug up someone's grave, hacked them up, and stuck some of the pieces in your mouth. I know someone who had intestinal surgery that required them to use the lining of a cow's stomach. Just be grateful you don't have dead cow in you.

yeah! if you wanted dead cow stomach, go to mcdonalds!

"...I Iearnt..."? Im pretty sure its I learnt... :l

No, I see what #43 is saying. The OP has 'learnt' with a capital I, not an L. Look closely; you'll notice a height difference.

Calls die and are replaced all the time. In a couple of months it will be all your own tissue. Even if you had a new heart it would eventually be all your own.

Doesn't work like that. Cells replicate from cells - if the heart belongs to someone else then the new heart cells will contain the donor's DNA, not the recipient's. This is why transplant patients have to take immunosuppressor drugs for the rest of their lives to prevent the donated organ being mistaken for a foreign body by the immune system and rejected.

so before we go making incorrect assumptions... skin donation is probably what you have to fill the "hole" - and yes it's from a cadaver aka deceased person who was kind enough to do so - so please a little thanks here - autologous grafts (grafts from yourself) cause some pretty serious scarring so it's not ideal donated "tissue" is healthy and easier to deal with bc it's processed in a manner that generally allows it to become what tissue it needs to become....

that's just gross but at least YOU aren't the dead person...

This is so common. It's not an FML. You breathe dead skin all day.
