Same thing happend to me, i was told to go Camping and drink a beer once in a while. i went to a diffrent doc to get a 2nd opinion. i was then diagnosed with Major clinical Depression. but treatment helped very good!
if he graduated from the same college, think about applying for another college lol!
Lots of universities have students working in their mental health centers so that they can gain real world experience that goes towards graduating. There's supposed to be a certified psychologist around in case the student doesn't know what to do, though, since these are delicate issues and things just like the OP described could happen. It was probably the guy's first time trying to diagnose somebody and he was thrown off by how much more difficult it is when it's not just a case study in a textbook. That doesn't make what happened alright -- he should have handled things differently -- but it's a potential explanation for the way he acted.
What an ass. Don't let that discourage you from finding real help. You need it. Depression is very serious, and I know first-hand what it's like untreated. I still haven't gotten over mine, and there are days when I seriously would rather die than continue in this world. PLEASE GET HELP!!
find new people to interact with.
I agree depression is a serious issue and I suffer too. You could still give his advise a try. Go out and let any emotion you feel pass through you. That is feel yourself feeling it.
that doesn't sound like a professional psychologist, go and see your doctor or someone outside of the university that specialises in it, I can tell you from experience, school/ educattion counselors are not the best, I had one i hysterics about a nightmare I had, because she didn't find it scary at all, and it was obviously scary for me and made feel stupid that it would scare me so much, I feel your pain, going to a doctors and professional psychologists are the way to go on this one
here in my area there were used to be small gathering of elder people who were to listen to people's problems and suggest solutions, that counseling group held persons from all walks of life, their main aim was to get a person out of his loneliness and help him becoming a better person
Asshole. Complain to the school and find someone real who'll help you.

You need to go see a real counselor. Depression is a serious issue and to have someone the school employs take it so lightly is really worrisome.
Some people don't really understand from others point of view.
