Today, after taking my crush to the train station late at night, I sat in a local park alone with my thoughts for a while. Two cops appeared out of nowhere and started searching me for drugs and weapons, asking me questions for a good 30 minutes. Not the kind of action I expected tonight. FML

Shame on you for having a valid reason to be out at night.

You probably fit some sort of description

Did you make the mistake of being black?

Yeah, no. I doubt that's legal in any place.

It's actually legal in most places as far as I know. And it doesn't even have a backwater place, it is in some western countries. Cops are allowed to investigate (and in this case, search and question) suspicious behaviour. And to add to that, train stations and local parks at night are both very popular locations for drug dealers... So it isn't all that strange really.

He was just sitting there, though, and they didn't have warrants. But they still decided to search and question OP for 30 minutes.

thats y you bring a newpaper! cop1:whats he doing in the park this late? cop2: just reading the paper. lets go

You people are ******* dumb. Thanks to the Terry vs Ohio case, officers have the RIGHT to search pedestrians with reasonable suspicion. However, if you say, "I do not give consent to be searched and questioned." Then they cannot search you. Gain some knowledge before you talk shit about the police you *******. IF WE DIDNT HAVE POLICE EVERYDAY WOULD BE THE PURGE.

Pssst, look at location before you cite laws.

They can't perform unwarranted searches or seizures

Did they have a warrant or probable cause ?

Even if OP was from the U.S. (Which they obviously are not) it never said he was forcibly searched he could've given consent as most people who have nothing to hide do

I'm going to avoid making the comment about warrant less stops and searches of citizens, merely based on where you are from
