Today, as a physics teacher, I was testing a class to see how high a sound frequency they could hear. One girl claimed she could hear the sound even though it was physically impossible. Without thinking, I replied "Only dogs can hear this frequency." Needless to say, she was picked on all day. FML

She was probably lying and trying to sound superior if she claimed she could hear frequencies that are in dog-range, so I guess she got what was coming to her.

Actually what he said was not wrong. If she is claiming to hear it, then she deserves to be picked on, especially when it is impossible for her to have heard it. The classmates were wrong, but the OP wasn't

Maybe you should go back to school. What is it about the human ear that you think it is incapable of vibrating above 20kHz? I can hear above that and can feel above what i can hear (sonic motion detectors are very painful to me). So f her life for having an insensitive and stupid teacher.

I seriously doubt you can hear to 36 kHz, because that is about the sound of a dog whistle. Maybe you should stop making shit up. It is true that some people can hear better than others, but a dog whistle? lol Now a sonic motion detector, I would buy that because that isn't too far out of the average human hearing range, but a dog whistle is way out of the human hearing range, she was making shit up, you cannot hear sounds of 36kHz.

Average human hearing range is 20hz to 20kHz. It's also generally accepted that children's ears are more sensitive. Wikipedia says dog whistles are usually between 16 and 22kHz, not 36kHz. Seems to me that a normal 5 year old could definitely hear most of those frequencies, whereas as adults (my aunt and uncle) would not have been able to hear them.

OP, how high are we talking? How far above the normal range are we? If we aren't too far above it's entirely possible, even though technically it would be "in dog range." When I was little my aunt used to have a whistle for the dog that I could hear. No one else could hear it, so it must have been somewhat outside the normal range, but it couldn't have been that much higher than average. Some people are more sensitive to certain pitches.

I'm sorry, but this is such a stupid ass FML. P.S. Happy birthday to me! :D

you were just telling the truth, it's not your fault that she makes shit up
