Today, as I was walking into CVS, two older men outside said to me "Young lady, please consider us on your way out." Thinking they were hitting on me, I rolled my eyes and said "Screw you." When I walked back outside, I realized they were asking for AIDS donations. FML

Today, I was walking down the street and while stopped at a light, this old man waved at me. Thinking nothing of it, I walked through a parking lot to get to where I was going, where he not only followed me, but mistook me for a prostitute. It was 5pm. FML

Today, I saw an old man who needed help crossing the street. I went over to him and helped him across the street. When he thanked me, I said, "No problem, sir." They responded by hitting me in the happy sacks and screaming that they were a woman. FML

Today, at the supermarket, an old lady asked for directions to the produce aisle. Having read way too many stories lately on this very site about awful elderly folks, I was wary, but helped her out. She gave me an awkward hug in thanks, lifting my wallet in the process, as I later found out. FML

Today, I was walking through town when a rough looking woman asked me for a cigarette. I don't smoke but I offered her some apples, and she took two. As I continued on past her, she pegged both of them at me, hitting the back of my head. FML

a) yeah, this girl was being a bitch. If i was trying to "keep myself safe" from creepy men, I would ignore them, not insult them, and if they addressed me as "young lady" I would NOT assume they were hitting on me. b) It is a really awful feeling to be a woman, alone, vulnerable, and to know that most men could easily take advantage of or hurt you because you are physically much weaker than they are. It's scary and humiliating, and being made to feel like a piece of meat is not okay. Being yelled at, propositioned, or touched by men you don't know (even if you are wearing, say, a miniskirt) is not okay. It's incredibly dehumanizing. Guys, you will never understand what this feels like, so shut the **** up.
