Today, at 26, I got chicken pox. My parents stand by their belief that I got it because I'm not right with God, not because they didn't vaccinate me. FML

OP here. Yes, my parents are religious. Orthodox Jews. I never thought anything about it, I'm from Central Europe. Things were not this standard. it was always just a "for religion exemption". Now that I understand what the hell is up, I have gotten all the shots I can get as an adult, my arse hurts, my arm hurts, my thigh hurts. But I don't have to worry about whooping cough and polio. So there is that. Also, Chicken Pod as an adult, I was told it could be much worse, I only have some scars. THANKFULLY!!!! :D

Hopefully they're not those idiots that thinks vaccines cause autism or avoid them for stupid religious reasons.... but I wouldn't be surprised. Sounds pretty likely in this case tbh.

It's not chicken pox. It's leprosy. I know. I read the bible. I'm qualified to speak on medical matters.

Vaccinations are preventive measures at best. They are not life-long protection from disease, and not all vaccinations do what they are advertised as doing. If you live in the US you are more likely to be killed by police than to die from chicken pox.

I have never gotten a shot like that... I have also never been sick like that...

It's the varicella vaccination. Been around for about 15 years now.

You can't get vaccinated for chicken pox. But once you've had it you're immune for life, so most get it as kids/babies and never again. A lot of parents actually intentionally let their kids get infected if a neighbour/friend/relative has it since it is pretty harmless when you're a kid, but can leave you sterile if you get it as an adult.

You CAN get vaccinated for chicken pox.

Yes you can. And you can get it repeatedly. And you will get shingles which can make you blind. Its painful and kills. There is a lady who is being reported to cps for sending out pox party invites and for swabbing her husbands shingles scabs into her childrens mouths. You NEVER purposely make your children sick especially when you can prevent it with a vaccine.

no after you get chicken pox the next time you get it you get shingles. There was I dunno if it's on Netflix anymore but a pretty good documentary on vaccinations. I used to be against all vaccinations until I had a kid and actually looked into all that shit

69, Jesus H. Christ, what a disgusting "human." It reminds me of a guy who poisoned his own child with a lethal dose of potassium cyanide to collect his life insurance ... and tried to kill other children to cover it up. :/ Also, 69.

Im so sorry you have to go through this. At least you can vax your future kids.

Its fine, you probably don't want to be right with their shitty god anyway

I had them 3 times and got shingles it's not uncommon

Vaccine or not you could still get chicken pox.... Back in my day we got chicken pox the old fashioned way "oh hey so and so has chick pox- bring over your kids so they can share" -_- but it's not because God hates you

At least you didn't become autistic from being vaccinated like some people belief would happen
