OP here. Yes, my parents are religious. Orthodox Jews. I never thought anything about it, I'm from Central Europe. Things were not this standard. it was always just a "for religion exemption". Now that I understand what the hell is up, I have gotten all the shots I can get as an adult, my arse hurts, my arm hurts, my thigh hurts. But I don't have to worry about whooping cough and polio. So there is that. Also, Chicken Pod as an adult, I was told it could be much worse, I only have some scars. THANKFULLY!!!! :D

Wtf? Get better soon.
Did they even have that vaccine 26 years ago??? I know even recently we've had pediatricians who were against it.
It existed, but it wasn't licensed in the US until 1995, so it may not have been available.
My brother was vaccinated when he was a baby and shortly after he got the chicken pox. I thought you could only get them once but he got them again 2 years ago and he was 14 at the time
You're 26, why is it your parents fault? The Immunization doesn't protect you forever anyways. To be protected you'd need a new one anyways.
Not to be rude, but you are 26, and you could've gotten vaccinated yourself.
He may have assumed he was vaccinated; many kids assume their parents vaccinated them for the basic things especially back before the whole stupid untrue vaccinations cause autism scare. Plus many people don't know you have to get revaccinated every so often for chickenpox
Okay I'm a Christian and I am absolutely positive that's not how it works :p
Sorry op, that sucks. I accidentally hit the YDI button but also did the FML one, so it canceled out the vote, but that's completely an FML and not your fault at all. I hope you feel better soon and heal soon. Also, tell your parents they're ******* idiots.
Chicken Pox vaccination is certainly not routine in the UK, in fact parents often actively encourage young children to contract the virus, so that they won't get it in adulthood, when it is more problematic. It does mean that they are then susceptible to shingles in later life, however.
I never received the chicken pox vaccination, as my mum wanted me to build up my own immunity, but I received all others. My younger siblings both developed chicken pox, and I did not, despite being around them while they had it. But it is so not fair that your parents blame you for getting it.
Seriously. Chicken pox... It may be inconvenient but definitely not lethal if you are a rather healthy person and will take good care of yourself.

Hopefully they're not those idiots that thinks vaccines cause autism or avoid them for stupid religious reasons.... but I wouldn't be surprised. Sounds pretty likely in this case tbh.
It's not chicken pox. It's leprosy. I know. I read the bible. I'm qualified to speak on medical matters.
