Today, at 3:00 am, I sat with my 3 year-old daughter while she tried to go back to sleep. She'd had a nightmare, and I'd read that "not leaving" was the most important thing a father could do. My wife woke and called me a pervert for sitting there. FML

Hopefully she was just joking? And, I mean, it was 3am, she was probably out of it anyway. No worries, you did the right thing and it's good that you're not letting her come into your own bed when those things happen because then they'll do it all the time. That's how it was with my brothers, atleast.

If she's serious, then she's clearly not cut out for parenthood - certainly not adoption. She's your DAUGHTER, and the fact you adopted shouldn't make a difference - your wife should understand, and shouldn't even be able to CONSIDER that. You should leave her, both because she doesn't appreciate and understand you AT ALL, and because she clearly doesn't feel the same way as you do about the adoption.

I'm sure she was just confused. It was the middle of the night. You did the right thing. I wish my father would have stayed with me if I had a bad dream as a child. Don't read too much into the situation, and you don't need to leave your wife like everyone else says. Good for you for adopting a child. Best of luck to you x

Even if it was the middle of the night, there's something troubling about the fact that her first thought was "he's being a perv!" rather than, "is our daughter okay?" Generally when you've just woken up and you're still sleepy some things may not make sense, but you wouldn't say or do something that's totally out of character. So even if she couldn't think of a good reason for him to be in there, she shouldn't have come to the conclusion that he was doing something wrong unless she had already been thinking/worrying about him doing something, or she just doesn't trust him. They definitely need to talk about this.

Yeah, I don't understand why she is calling you a perv. That is really not called for whatsoever, I don't care what time of day or night it is. Kudos to you for stepping up to the plate and doing whatever you possibly can to make your daughter feel comfortable and more secure!

Saying that kind of thing is serious. It shouldn't be said for a joke. You should ask her why she said it. I assume that she doesn't actually think that but you should make it clear it isn't ok to say if she doesn't. Calling someone a pervert can really mess up their life even if it is complete bulshit.

Perfectwinds, real-daughter/step-daughter/adopted-daughter, it's all still his daughter, regardless of which is was. It doesn't changes anything, it's still his daughter.
