Today, at my job working retail, I had just finished cleaning and straightening a whole aisle. This kid watched me do the whole thing. When I was done, he stuck his arm out, and ran it down the whole shelf, knocking everything off it. His mother just grabbed his hand and walked away. FML

I have said this for a long time now: It should be a requirement that everyone works as wait staff, custodial staff or Retail for a year in their life. Just to see what its like. I am sure that would change the world for the better. This kind of dtuff pisses me off. I was worked as night stock, waiter, busser, and custodian. the stuff I have seen... I am sorry that this happened to you OP

What a little asshole. If he was my kid, I'd make him clean it all up

Perfect example of what the F is wrong with society and the parents that don't do squat. I feel for you OP.

with a choke collar and a remote training collar for that little shit, and a hasty bill for the mom to pay for the man hours to clean it up and charged her for everything that was damaged or hit the floor.

Should have kicked them out of the store. Tell the mom not to come back until she disciplines her kid.

Should have kicked her out of the store, tell her not to come back until she can teach her kid to behave.

Unfortunately, a retail worker rarely has the power to kick someone out of the store. He'd most likely get fired for "being rude to a customer" if he tried.

True, but it is wrong that it is that way. There is only so much that a retail worker should have to put up with, and managers should have their backs. They don't though, retail workers are treated like they are replaceable. When I was little if I acted up in the store my mother would drag my ass out of the store and I would go home. You can bet I had hell to pay if I didn't act right. If did something wrong I was also made to apologize for it. Why parents are not doing that now is beyond me. Allowing your child to purposely destroy someone's hard work and not doing anything about it makes them a crappy parent. You are just teaching the child that if they do something wrong you can just walk away and you don't even have to apologize for it.

I've kicked many teenagers out of the store for horseplay and generally dangerous or damaging behavior, with praise from and instructions from my managers to do so. I've been working retail since 2008 in a large store.

Breathe. Deep breaths. Woosah. Woosah. Serenity now!

hey you get paid by the hour

and get criticized by the minute if it takes you longer than they think it should take to recover an aisle.

And that's when you rip your child's arm off and beat them with the bloody stump...
