You deserved it big time I also work with the deceased. You have to watch what you say 100% of the time you never know if a grieving family member is in earshot.
Wow you're so professional. Change jobs.
Wow. You'd think somebody would be more professional and compassionate working in a job like yours...guess you proved that wrong.
My mom passed away last year from cancer. I couldn't fathom how I'd react to hearing someone in the funeral home referring to her in that manner. Shame on you for being so disrespectful to the dead, and to their family they left behind.
It shouldn't matter about whether the person's family is within earshot, you shouldn't speak about someone like that, dead or alive. Show respect or find a job you're better suited to
I worked in engineering in a hospital and while there was definitely a gallows humor all that was kept back in the shop room. YDI you gotta really watch you tongue people have lost family members or friends if you are gonna joke like that keep it confined to the body prep room not anywhere family or friends of the deceased can hear you and certainly don't yell anything out.
I hope you get fired. He won't be a repeat customer now.
I get it probably makes your job easier to not think them as people, to dehumanize them, but still you deserved it. professionalism is always important.
Wow. Everyone in these comments are so uptight! You really think working in a depressing and stressful job such as that wouldn't call for jokes once in a while? Of course OP realized they screwed up, hence the FML! He doesn't need to find a new job over it.
I completely agree with you. I also find irony in the fact these folks are talking about how disrespectful OP was but yet, they're calling them an idiot. Everyone makes mistakes.

You deserve it for not watching your surroundings or saying it in a more polite manner.
Haven't you ever been taught to act profesional in your work area? YDI
