Today, at work, I got to wait on one of those tables where everyone had very complex orders, and some of them sent their food back. When the time finally came for me to bring them their check and receive my well-earned tip, I returned only to discover that they'd dined and dashed. FML

Today, while at the restaurant I work at, a bunch of kids came in. They all gave incredibly complex orders, laughed at everything I did, and made a huge mess by "spilling" hot sauce and water all over the floor. After they left, I was tipped eleven cents. FML

Today, I was taking a table's order. After I finished, the guy told me, "Just FYI, I'm not a tipper." Trying to lighten up the situation, I replied, "It's amazing how many people forget I handle their food." He complained to the manager that I'd threatened him. FML

Today, I went into work to waitress on a table of 40 guests. They were my only table for the day and the bill came to over 700 dollars. After they left the busser was cleaning the table and threw out the credit card receipt which had my tip on it. FML

Today, while I was working as a waitress, I had to wait on a table of 13 people. I was struggling through it and when they finally left I went by the table to pick up my tip. Instead of a money I got a napkin saying "Here's your tip, don't be a waitress." FML

Today, I was out to dinner with a friend. When the bill came with a customer satisfaction survey, I put honestly that the "server friendliness" was "below average." Ten minutes later, I had to return to the restaurant to beg the waitress for my keys, which I had left on the table. FML

Today, a customer complained he never got his sandwich, even though I put it in the oven, dressed it up and served it to him. When I went to clear his table off, I saw the sandwich basket. We had to give him his money back. FML

Today, at the café I work at, I was yelled at by a woman because the drinks and food she ordered were "taking too long". Before I had the chance to get a word in, she stormed out and said she would never come back. I didn't get the chance to inform her that she hadn't ordered yet. FML

Today, I was waitering at the restaurant that I work at when I collected a credit card bill that was worth $120 and a big zero on the tip line. Angered, I turned to a co-worker and said "I knew this asshole wasn't going to tip me." The guy was standing right behind me with $30 in his hand. FML

I wouldn't necessarily expected a huge tip if they had to send their food back...even if the order is more complex, it's still annoying to have to send back food and wait for new stuff. Of course, that isn't necessarily your fault though and certainly never justifies dine and dashing. I hope you didn't have to pay for their meal. :(

Whoever is thumbing me down - you've obviously never had an allergy or food that you've hated that could easily be left out but had to deal with an incredibly rude and unhelpful waiter/tress. And no, I'm not saying it's OP's fault - she seems perfectly nice. But you do get incompetent cooks and waiting staff just as you get horrible customers.

Keeping a clean house is its own reward. Hunting and butchering an animal or catching a fish is its own reward. Finding out something that's been bothering you for the longest time is its own reward. Calling out some dumbass on his/her bullshit is its own reward. This is the food service industry. By definition, money is given in compensation for one's time and effort. Because of a dine'n'dashing, a part of the very income the restaurant uses to distribute wages has been lost. One can only hope and wish that they weren't complete assholes by being curt and demeaning to poor OP, as well.

I know how you feel. I was pulling a double, and my boss told me one more table, then I'd be cut. I got a party of 16, who were the exact same way-- they had me running back and forth and they were all drunk and insane... I didn't have any time to work on side work. They came in at 2:45am, and had a bill of over $100 total. I was stuck there until 6am-- they stiffed me.
