No good deed goes unpunished!
What did you expect was going to happen? You can't be nice to one customer without doing the same for the rest.
You have my respect. Don't let those ignorant few stop your generous nature. Karma goes both ways, you reap what you sow. The blessing will return to you in some way. You just never know when you'll need someone's kindness to intervene on your behalf.
Sew* sow is a female pig
45 - sow is correct. While it could be a female pig in this case it means to put out seeds/plant a crop and reaping is to bring it in.
I know it's a bad move for humanity, but you should not have been giving anyone a discount at all unless you own the business. You are losing not only profits for your boss but the business itself and that is not very efficient. I know you were trying to do the rght thing but that does not belong in the workplace if your are a cashier. You do not get to magically decide the prices. I hope that if your boss catches wind you only get a slap on the wrist and not fired.
If op has discounts at her work place then she can give someone her discount. It's not like she didn't charge a few items to lower the total.
No she's right or he.... Everyone wants to do the right thing but at a business you can get fired for trying to help out a customer. You can only offer discount if it's the boss doing it or the boss approves of it. But that all depends on where op works. I worked at a retail store gave a lady a $20 discount on some clothes because she didn't have enough and I got yelled at so much by my boss and fired the next day. Like I said it all depends.
You still cannot be giving anyone discounts on anything at all without a boss's permission. You are losing profits that way and therefore not doing your job. It's just one of those things that's hard to understand if you've never been a cashier before.
I work as a barista at Starbucks and it is fully within my power to give free beverages to unhappy customers and to "buy" a customers drink to promote loyalty and continued business. The future benefits of a special discount or free drink definitely outweigh the lost cost of it. Word of mouth and continued patronage are just two benefits. OP should not be reprimanded at all and commenters should stop saying so.
39 - Especially considering the markup on everything! What does a venti Frappucino actually cost Starbucks, cup & all, like 24 cents? Put it on the menu for 6 bucks and people will pay. I worked there like 8 years ago... Do you still use the books of free drink coupons? I would usually just give them out to my friends! I was a naughty barista.
Ugh, I can totally agree with the crazy Starbucks prices though. I stopped going there completely because of how overpriced everything was. You want a cookie? Five bucks!
No, giving someone a discount because they can't pay once is good business, because they're more likely to come back if you're nice to them. That's why discounts exist.
Omg. some of you guys are ridiculous... She was obviously doing it in a way that was completely within the rules... Its not like she just bagged stuff without ringing it up! Don't listen to them OP you have a good heart. This world needs more ppl like you.
Oh, really? And where was it stated that it was within the rules? If it was within the rules then giving everyone a discount would not have been such an inconvenience to the OP.
Calm down Myo...not your fml...not your company...not your problem. You know nothing more than we do about the situation and plenty of businesses have rules that allow things like that. You just sound bitter...back off
By that logic, you have no means of correcting me for my comments either because you know as little as I do about the situation. I'm just trying to make it apparent that we can't just give everything away or there would BE no business within our economy and no transfer of goods and services. I'm not bitter nor want anything bad to come to the OP, I just do not agree with jumping down the prices of goods especially if your boss has not approved prior. I will leave this as my closing statement for this FML and pack it up.
That's how America is, you do one nice thing for one person and everyone expects special treatment. Sad but true.
No dear I live in America so i said America. How am I to know of other continents and I didn't think it right to lump them in with the general idea.
Unfortunately, no good deed goes unpunished. FYL
You should have said "sure if you have a coupon."
Oh wow
Keywords
You get points for being a decent human being. Those people are just petty and greedy. Don't stop being nice, OP.
Should've said to the other people "life isn't fair, deal with it" and moved on. . But props for being a good person!
