People are greedy, self-entitled bastards. You did a good thing by trying to help a customer out, one who will remember your kindness and keep shopping at your store. The rest feel they deserve what that customer got because they have no scruples.

Ive had this situation many times. Once a woman cried because she felt like se failed her children, what i do is act like i doubled scanned something or grab a coupon and swipe it. Maybe a buck or too, but nothing extremely noticeable. Sometimes the customers don't notice sometimes they thank you. But never make it that obvious and don't ever do it often.

Wow, people are dicks. Unless you're actually poor there is no reason to demand for a discount as well. Are most Americans poor or something? I would think that the cashier did a nice thing for someone who needed help, I wouldn't want to create problems for her.

TBH, you did a good thing OP, but ydi. Be positive, do what you can, but never underestimate human nature. IMO we're capable of a lot, we just need to learn as much first. Until then think as if you wanna help everyone, but act like eevryone's out for number 1.
