a single error? 40 dollars is not a single error, he gave away money to a customer that didn't deserve it. The company I work at writes you up for being 5 dollars over or under on the till. It takes A LOT of mistakes (or stealing) to get to be 40 dollars off. Most people barely go over 5 cents off.
YDI for dating your subordinate. Shit like this is a perfect example why almost any company has distinct quid pro quo sexual harassment rules
He must have been a good ****... why else would you get involved with someone beneath you? The guy sounds like a genuine idiot and he obviously didn't have any money (except for the few bits he was stealing from the till.) If you just need a horny guy, check out the local high school. They'll take care of your needs and they'll probably have more maturity than your boyfriend also.
You definitely deserved it if you're dating someone at work, especially if it's someone who works directly under you. Those rules were established for good reasons, and situations like this only further back up why those policies indeed should stay and be enforced.
Aside from the drama that surrounds the break-up itself, the primary reason against dating someone you work with (from a personal perspective, not a corporate one) is that after the relationship ends, you're still going to see that person at work, all the time. If you part as friends, it may - MAY - be fine; if it's not a pleasant break-up, having to see them at work the next day, and every day until one of you moves / gets fired / gets a new job will not lead to a pleasant working environment. Companies have rules against relationships - almost always this simply limits relationships between supervisor and subordinate, and these rules make sense. If you're a supervisor and dating a subordinate, that subordinate may well expect preferential treatment (whether not being written up for an infraction, or a better schedule, or whatever) and your other subordinates will suspect your partner is recieving preferential treatment whether they are or not. You broke rules set in your company policy, you got caught. You were in a relationship with someone who was either too dumb to keep their register correct or was stealing from their place of work, expecting you to collaborate in their theft, and took vengance on you when you refused. For your sake, I hope it was the latter, because one can conceal a moral fibre with which that is normal behaviour - the dumb thing you should have been able to see ahead of time. You Deserve It: You were fired for breaking a rule that you did indeed break Your Life is Looking Up: You reached the end of a relationship with either an idiot or a burgeoning criminal Final Veridict, YDI+silver lining
yeh.. that's what they mean when they say 'never get involved with a guy from work'.
That's what she said... oh wait. It's already a sexual innuendo, damn it. Anyway, here's my take on the situation. She liked him. He didn't really like her. He just wanted to date his supervisor so he could steal from the register and not get ratted out. When he found out that she wouldn't let that crap fly; he got pissed and decided to get revenge. That's what I think was going on.
Well, you dug your own grave by dating a minor and a student. YDI
You really have a horrible taste in men. What's your number?

He is obviously to immature to understand the importance of having the correct amount of money in the till and the fact you have to do your job and properly to. You will find someone with the same mentality no doubt and will be better off without the other guy.
No way! You should've taken more money out and mentioned to your boss he was stealing out of the till. If you'd done that you'd be rid of him, still have a job, and have some extra spending money.
