Today, at work my boss told me I have been late, under-productive, and using up a lot of sick days. He says my job is on the line. My reason for barely showing up at work: I've been on maternity leave for 6 weeks. FML

You actually can't lose your job for going on maternity leave, go read the job rights poster, as well as any other state and federal laws and/or job policies.

at least he can't fire you then, because if he does, than you can sue him for wrongful termination and never have to work again

that doesn't explain late, or underproductive. but dot worry I'm not one of the people who said you deserved it. you shouldn't be fired for maternity leave

To be fair, whilst a pregnant woman is VERY productive, she isn't going to be producing at work whilst on maternity leave. She might have had a lot of appointments that caused her to be late or have to leave early prior to maternity leave. If this boss is as disconnected as he appears, he might not appreciate these facts and just see 'lazy employee'.

there is no such thing as late when you are on maternity leave. that means you don't work at all and they hold your position open until the date on the leave paperwork which can be extended per dr orders. her boss is an idiot and he is the one deserves to be fired

He might notice that she is not at work and assume she is late on some days and on other days assume she is sick. He would think she was being underproductive because he noticed that not a lot (or no) finished work was coming out of her office.

wait so shouldn't he know your on maternity leave?? so he can't really fire you because of it...

exactly. it'd pretty clear that the boss is clueless and doesn't know that the OP is on maternity leave since he/she assumed that the OP was using sick days

KVKdragon 26

sorry. it'd is supposed to be it's

What I don't understand is, if you've been on maternity leave, how do you show up to work late and be under-productive and use a lot of sick days? Isn't the whole point of maternity leave for you to just stay at home with your newborn and not have to worry about work for 3 months? Why would you have to show up from time to time?

I was just wondering that, maybe OP is a workaholic? I'd figure that most companies would rather a person on maternity leave just stay the hell away to avoid such confusion.

some places do something where you would go in every so often for a few hours to keep up to speed with what's going on, but i think thats only towards the end of maternity leave....

technically maternity leave is a year. and technically you can not work at all for that year.

62, technically that's only in Canada. Here it's six weeks, technically.

wow I wish I am getting bored having to sit at home and not be able to work. I can only do so many walks a day with my son otherwise he gets cranky

How can he call you unproductive when you just gave birth? Lol.

damn that sucks my wife just gave birth two weeks ago luckly i make enough that she doesnt have to go back to work unless she wants to. file a complaint with ur HR dept about work place discrimination so if he says anything again u got ammo on ur side

Your boss is stupid. Does he understand the meaning of maternity leave? He can't fire you because of it OP.

your boss is retarded. if you get fired, should you sue him. he's mental.

If OP is back from her leave, sounds like he's looking a reason to fire her. I was back from maternity leave for a month and got fired. He's had 6 weeks to work on it.

I was back four when my job fired me for something asinine. I didn't fight it cause I was done with their bullshit anyway.

just show him the video of you giving birth and maybe he'll believe you

boo breaking benjamin sucks. except for one song of theirs
