Today, both of my grandparents died in a car accident. My Mom and Dad thought it would make me feel better to know they were not my real grandparents, because I'm adopted. FML

Today, I learned I was adopted and that my parents had died in a car accident when I was really young. My girlfriend was sitting next to me when I got the news, and several hours later broke up with me in a text stating, "I don't want to be with someone who doesn't have real parents." FML

Today, my grandparents told me they couldn't make it to my college graduation, even with months in advance to plan, because they had their annual Mother's Day plans with friends. Plans they've had every year, and are further away. This was the only time I'll ever have a graduation ceremony. My grandpa is my last biological grandparent. FML

Today, my grandfather was counting all the grandchildren he had and saying how fortunate he was to have all of us. When I pointed out that he'd forgotten to count me, he turned and said "You're adopted, you don't count as a real grandchild" FML

Today, I went to visit my grandparents, as my grandmother may not have long left. When my stepfather wasn't grilling my visibly uncomfortable grandad about Bible passages, my mother was trauma-dumping about how hard her life has been, and how awful her marriage to my father was. They're his parents. FML

Today, I was sitting at home when the police knocked on my door. They came inside, sat me down and told me that both my parents died in a car crash tonight. I started to cry, but about 10 minutes later, I find out they had the wrong person. I feel bad for the other guy. FML

I'm pretty sure a lot of the YDIs on the ones that couldn't be anything but FYLs are trolls and/or smartasses. They just click it to be oh-so-bad.

wow your parents are stupid, but that doesnt make your grandparents any less of grandparents if theyve always been there. ps being adopted isnt bad, if youre life has been good so far then obviously your parents care and just had bad timing telling you this.

I don't think it's the problem OP adopted but that her parents assume it won't hurt if Op's grandparents died because they weren't related

Wow I understand if parents don't wanna tell their adopted kids that they are adopted, maybe because they're afraid of the action of they wanna wait "until they understand", but that was just really bad timing. That doesn't help at all. Those events separately might not be as bad, but just putting them together like that isn't right = .=;; It's bad enough that your grandparents died, but now you feel like your "parents" have been lying to you all this time. Sure they love you, that's why they raise you, but I wonder, if they really loved you, you'd think they would've told you the truth in a better way, not like this.....
