I would report him to Human Resources or w/e the equivalent is at your place of work. He had no right to embarrass you like that and put your job on hte line.

That was a highly inappropriate prank to pull in what's supposed to be a professional atmosphere. There's a time and a place, and that was neither the time nor the place! The boss should get spoken to about it, no doubt. I'd be so pissed if I were OP and even more so if I were the patient...joke or not!
