Today, for my birthday, the only "gift" my parents gave me was the gift of choice: I got to choose which one of them I'll be living with after their upcoming divorce. This was the first time I'd heard anything about a divorce. FML

Divorce sucks... Especially when it comes to money. That might be why neither of the two bought you anything... Saving up money for the divorce. However, they still should have made the day fun for you by going and doing something cheap, but meaningful. Hopethe road ahead isn't too rocky, op.

Hello OP, I hope you read this, as it happened to me as well. My parents ended up staying together, the lengthy divorce process turned out to be worse than splitting up their stuff, and they are happier now than before. For my family it worked out, but I carry a sadness in my heart from the time when things were at rock bottom. The only way to get through this is by focusing on your own life, study hard, get out on your own when you're ready to take care of yourself and your own life. I know this is tough, but you're the only person who will put your best interest first right now. Maybe someday they'll put you first, but for now take care of yourself and trust your best judgement.
