Today, for the nth time, my father reminded me that I should study things related to the "real" world, as if I was studying theology, astrology or something. I'm studying for a master's degree in physics. FML

Your father probably didn't do well in science

Can you please calculate the amount of force necessary to knock some sense into people? It's got something to do with mass and velocity, but that's your field, OP, not mine. Physics is a very applicable and needed science in today's world. Your dad needs to stop implying that it's not useful, because it is extremely relevant. Congrats, OP, for sticking with a field that has excellent jobs.

your father needs to do some studying of his own

You'll show him when you get a super cool job!

Because astrology isn't important... M'kay

Astrology, like are you a Gemini or a Libra and does that mean you're going to find a dollar on the ground today. Not astronomy, like what's going on with the planets and outer space. Astrology the useless thing.

I'll assume you are confused between astrology and astronomy. Astrology is bullshit.

The nth time.... So, does the sum of all the times he's told you this converge to "annoyance"?

Most Sciences are good fields to study. Physics is excellent. Your dad is a fool OP.

Good luck with your master's degree, OP!

OP, I applaud you for choosing one of the most difficult but also most rewarding sciences out there! Don't listen to your dad, he sounds really clueless!

I know how you feel, OP! I'm studying for my Bachelors Degree in Pharmaceutical Science in college, but my family think I should do something more artistic like interior design, hairdressing, beautician, doing nails or makeup artistry because nearly all the females on both sides of my family are in one of those professions. I took up a part time interior design evening course in the college I'm in, so at least I have other options in case they were right, but I'm doing quite good in my Pharma Science course! Although, I'm sure you're study some Astrology in your Physics course anyways!

If I went to a school that tried to make me take an Astrology course when I was doing a masters in Physics, I think I would be transferring to a real school ASAP.

I said 'some', we do SOME astrology in my Physics module - Literally a lecture or two...

My apologies - I got astromomy and astrology and astrophysics mixed up! Physics isn't my main Science subject but we briefly do it a few hours a week and I'm not a big fan if it

you don't get any more real than studying reality and motion.
