Today, for the nth time, my father reminded me that I should study things related to the "real" world, as if I was studying theology, astrology or something. I'm studying for a master's degree in physics. FML

Your father probably didn't do well in science

Can you please calculate the amount of force necessary to knock some sense into people? It's got something to do with mass and velocity, but that's your field, OP, not mine. Physics is a very applicable and needed science in today's world. Your dad needs to stop implying that it's not useful, because it is extremely relevant. Congrats, OP, for sticking with a field that has excellent jobs.

tell him physics is far more lucrative than theology

he will realize it later...the degree is real money earning source later...

You should demonstrate how important the laws of physics are by tossing an apple at his head, that helped Newton get it.

A bit rude to say that about theology. Martin Luther King is one example of a theology graduate.

Theology is nonsense. It consists wholly of people making up things that justify a belief in a tyrant, sado-masochist written about two thousand years ago

No I'm pretty sure he said what he meant. "nth" just means an unspecified, usually large, number. As in, OP has lost count of how many times his dad has said this.

You remind me of the FML where a woman said "lull" in the context of a slow sales season, and some tween corrected her for mispronouncing LOL, and that the lack of customers wasn't funny... The guy's a physics nerd... think about the context before jumping to conclusions. Even if you don't know that "nth" is actually a word (legal in scrabble)... You should remember from school that: n is one of the most commonly used variables in basic math (along with x, and y, etc.) n as a Variable: n usually denotes a fixed integer, such as a count of objects or the degree of an equation.

Throw a brick at his face, then explain to him the physics of it

I'm an engineer too. I understand the joke since physicist are more theoretical and engineers are more practical with the application of their knowledge. But a real engineer isn't dumb enough to really think that way. We go hand in hand like cold milk and warm cookies. Once you dip it, the overlap is far greater than the differences.

Yell physics every time he does something related to physics (jumping, driving ) not constantly but little things :p
