Why is it that parents feel they ought to get some sort of preferential status? So what if she doesn't have kids? Does that mean she should have to work your shift for you because you popped out some kids?
I'm guessing you don't have kids?
Is anyone familiar with the Desperate Housewives episode where Lynette deals with the issue of wanting time off to spend with her family and her co-worker doesn't want to give her preferential treatment for it? I also learned about this as an example in Business Ethics. Super interesting.
You guys don't get it, the point of the story is that the coworker lied. She could just have been honest and said that she had already plans or something
The point isn't simply that the coworker lied. If it were, the FML would say, today I tried to switch shifts with my co-worker and she lied to get out of doing so. FML While I agree that she shouldn't have lied, the point here is that OP thinks she is entitled to the day off because she has kids and her coworker doesn't. My guess is her coworker didn't want to listen to her whine and beg for the rest of the day on the basis that she has children, and the lie was meant to shut her down. And since she clearly targeted said coworker because she KNEW she didn't have children, meaning she feels more entitled to the day off simply because she has kids, I'd say she got what she deserved.
it saddens me that people only care about the Easter baskets and candy and even some gifts... once again a holiday is ruined by the commercialism of society.... OP - just work 3-11 or whatever afternoon/evening shifts ur job has if it's that bad... that way u are up with ur kid for their basket and u can go to church in the am.... there ya go...
I'm not religious, but I come from a country with a Christian tradition, so most of my holidays revolve around Christian celebrations. I see them as opportunities to spend time with loved ones and apprieciate them. There's generally a theme, however. Easter = choccy. Christmas = presents and pretty decor. Carefully selected presents, however.
If my coworker wanted special privileges because of her choice to have kids, I would make up fake kids too.
