Guaranteed if this were the other way around and you were upset, and your boyfriend told you to act tougher, you'd get more upset and instead of having this point of view of "wow, I'm crying, how lame", you'd be pissed that he said that. Two way street.

The ''always walking on eggshells'' thing is when you are with someone with very low self-esteem and distorted perception of events, interpreting stuff in the worse way possible because deep inside they think they deserve that crap they almost made out of thin air. It can become a serious problem which requires help. Worst thing to do is to show anger about it ; that's just fueling the problem like poking a wound instead of putting a bandage.
