My parents never saved for my education. They were too busy paying bills and putting food on the table because they were making just enough money to support everything. I got my first job at 15 and paid for my own 4 years of college in full, on my own. That's including books, a laptop, a DSLR (for photography courses) with lenses and specific school related programming for my laptop. You shouldn't EXPECT your parents to pay for college. Sometimes they can't afford to because they're busy putting food on the table and keeping a roof over your head. Other times, they want to teach you responsibility and the value of money so when you leave home, you can become a functioning member of society. YDI that you assumed you would be getting free post-secondary education and didn't think to open your own college fund.
At least you know the rules now, though I do agree that the laughter shows a distinct lack of class. Actually, you got an opportunity to grow up and jettison them early. Not everyone gets that opportunity. My dad told me that he wasn't paying a cent for my college. He planned to pay for only my sisters and my spoiled youngest brother--and that's exactly what he did! My parents are religious pacifists, so I declared independence and joined the Army during Vietnam and worked my way up to a PhD. I'm glad that I did. I owe no one anything, least of all my parents, and I'm proud of it! It won't be easy, but you can do it also. Seize the opportunity while you can. It's worth every drop of blood and sweat. They won't give up, bu the way. When they tried the same trick with the inheritance to manipulate me back into their orbit, I told them that they had better spend it before they go because I will find a charity that they despise and give every cent to it.
Oh that sucks! I don't have a chance of one either but you could always take out a loan (:
That's what I hate about society, the fact that people can sit there and downgrade each other for asking for help. My mom is saving money for my college, and has been since the day I was born. MOST parents do that. So if people want to sit here and called you spoiled and shit, **** em'. They obviously don't understand the different ways families provide for each other. Even still, getting a loan or something will be in your best interest. Go to college, get a job, then prove to your parents that even without their help, you could do it. (:
There's this thing called a scholarship.... I heard that if you actually give a **** in school you can get one! YDI for being lazy.
All because you have good grades doesn't mean you'll get a scholarship. Last time I checked my 4.0 gpa, community service, extra curricular activities, and countless scholarship applications got me $0. So maybe op isn't being lazy, maybe he's just hurt because his parents never told him that's he's getting no support and they laughed at him.
Haha, my parents wouldn't even let me live with them after high school, much less pay for college-.-
i am one of the few who was lucky enough to have a college fund. . its heavily regulated but it helped me.
I don't blame them for laughing. get a job
