Who's in charge?

Today, I’ve been asking both my health insurance and the clinic in question under which circumstances an elective procedure would be covered by insurance. Each one of them tells me that the other has to make the decision. FML

"Go ask your mother." "She told me to ask you."

I think OP might mean something like “I can’t breathe out of my nose and need rhinoplasty to fix it, which is normally for aesthetic purposes but would be quality-of-life for me”.

So tell them both that the other said it was covered.

Elective procedures in the US are not covered by insurance because they are “elective” Idk why they won’t explain that to you. Sorry OP

a total knee replacement can be elective too. Knee hurts but isn't bad enough to get emergency surgery. patient comes in for an elective surgery. Needed? Yes. Needed right this second? no

Ask the clinic to do a pre approval. That’s how you get a real answer.

Just tell them both the other said yes. Done!
