Today, I bought a fish. I put the tank on top of the fridge so my cat wouldn't get at it. I'd forgotten to buy some things for its tank, so I quickly ran out to get them. When I got home, I saw the tank destroyed on the floor, and my cat devouring my fish. I had the fish for less than an hour. FML

Fish: Oh jeez where am I? Cat: Well well well, looks like Christmas came early...or late. Either one works. Fish: Must swim away. Wait. Crap.

Thts crazy. My fish tank has a heavy closed lid on top and my cat has never touched it.

I think we all know that to show the cat who's the boss, you need to purchase a piranha. I promise your cat won't try to eat another fish again. If it lives... Bwahahaha

Pirahna are not very threatening to anything without the whole school with them, and even then they're mainly scavengers, not predators.

If you really must keep a fish and a cat in the same house, never allow the two to be unattended in the same room. How hard is it to close one damn door before going out?

Oh, and I know this works because my family has had cats for years, and when we also had fish we kept them in one of the bedrooms. Lived as long as you'd expect a fairground goldfish to live.

My cat and fish were in the same room unattended as often as the cat wanted to. It's not a problem for everyone.

cats get anywhere and everywhere ALWAYS lesson #1

Lesson learned. Cats can do anything they want, even if you think it ought to be physically impossible. Closing the door is not even gonna do the trick, as quite a few cats are capable of opening closed doors by jumping up and hitting the handle.

One of the many reason to have door knobs and not handles!

#73 My cat can easily open doors with knobs. Even if we take the knob off so it's just a square post. He doesn't even have to jump, just stretches (he has relatively long legs).

I knew the outcome by 'put tank on top of fridge'. So clearly, YDI.

The only way you'd really have protected that fish is if you had put your fridge ON TOP of the fish tank. ( as some determined cats can easily open any kind of fridge...mine does!! ).
