Today, I bought a fish. I put the tank on top of the fridge so my cat wouldn't get at it. I'd forgotten to buy some things for its tank, so I quickly ran out to get them. When I got home, I saw the tank destroyed on the floor, and my cat devouring my fish. I had the fish for less than an hour. FML

Today, I bought a new Siamese Fighting Fish. I was so happy with my new fish so I bought him an expensive lovely bowl, some weeds, and a toy for the bowl. I left the room to get the fish food. When I returned, the fish was gone, and the cat was sitting on the table. FML

Today, I heard a loud crashing noise. I ran into the kitchen to see what it was. My cat had knocked over my fish bowl and had my Beta in her mouth. After scolding her and rescuing it, I decided to clean its bowl. When I went to dump some of the water in the sink, my fish went down the drain. FML

Today, I bought a fish bowl and a fish for $15. I brought him home and sat him on my desk. Everything was going well until the shelf gave out and his bowl slid off of the shelf... onto my $2,000 computer. The computer is fried and is not covered by the insurance, the fish is fine. FML

Today, I was walking to the pet store to buy a month's worth of fish food for my fish so I wouldn't have to come back for a while. For fish food it was expensive. It was also surprisingly heavy and I had to carry it back to my house. When I got home, I saw my fish floating at the top of its bowl. FML

In that case I wouldn't bother getting a new fish... I guess your cat just can't resist! And don't worry, I don't think you're an idiot, because I have a cat too and also a bowl with a goldfish in it, a seperate aquarium AND a pond in the backyard, and she has never tried to eat any of the fish...

Get a 50 gallon tank with a sturdy, stable aquarium stand if you want fish bad enough. But you need to have everything set up and running for a few days beforehand. There are those with a bowed front and angled sides meant to,sit in a corner. i assume its better cause it more stable with two walls on their sides. Then put a few fish in it at a time. Never mix cichlid types with the "peaceful" fish like guppies, mollies...or else they will get eaten. Your cat cant tip over a large tank.
